Bdm is the cultural brand developed by Michael Brandt, a photographer, arts professor and technologist located in San Francisco. Last year Michael asked me to write an essay for his first photobook Whitenoise. The process involved several animated Skype sessions during which we discussed the patterns of his photographs, their relation to transient moments in time, the importance of failure and vulnerability and a printed book's status in a time of online sharing and digital media. This was my first creative writing collaboration and it was an unusual challenge to experiment with critique, voice and presentation.
You can find more information and purchase Whitenoise at the Bdm store!
And here's a photo I really like.
